Idealized romance? No. Non pretentious fun which does ring true with all the awkwardness of first times in real life (not Hollywood) -certainly yes!
Now what’s wrong with KY Jelly? Which one is it, using it or mentioning it in the story? For using it, I think the guy actually demonstrated consideration. For mentioning it,I guess you could find the type of descriptions which meet your requests at the paper back section in grocery stores. They furnish all the clichés, but KY Jelly is never mentioned and no one ever gets even sweaty!

Don't bother bringing out a condom. Vaseline dissolves latex, it'd be just as bad as without a condom. A water-soluble lubricant like KY should be used. If you don't have KY in your area, research water-soluble lubricants.
This is a good story so far. I'm adding it to my favorites so I can follow it. Continue writing; you have some potential here. :)

OK, the anti-bacterial soap made me sore for days. So, here I am a couple of weeks later. I got a whole box of Tampax regulars--they didn't have a whole box of lights, only a variety pack. I also bought a tube of KY jelly.
The KY worked great. It's gentle and water based. The tampon slid in so far I had to pull it back out slightly to remove the applicator, then pushed it back in with my finger until only a little bit of string was hanging out. Next time I use a little less KY, but this looks like it worked.
