Someone left this comment here: Of course, alcohol was involved. I don't think any writer on here can come up with a decent story without alcohol being involved.
I often use alcohol as a plot device for the simple reason that in reality people still use alcohol as an excuse to set aside their inhibitions.

I choose to take the story at face value and that it illustrated that alcohol doesn’t make you susceptible to cheating. The thought and intent must already be there. The alcohol is just the when. So I choose to believe the wife since she had intention to cheat and thus the alcohol does not factor in it.

A word of caution, using alcohol of any type in an enema is extremely dangerous!! The digestive system slowly absorbs alcohol and it enters the blood stream. Taken rectally it immediately crosses the blood brain barrier and even a small amount can be deadly. I am a nurse and have seen multiple tragedies associated with this practice.
